In looking at spec on rifles, I notice that there are difference in barrel length. My question is , is a long barrel provide better accucary as is travel longer in a straight
line. Hoping to find an answer
thanks for looking

Harold:
Great question, there's plenty of curiosity including theories of pros vs cons. I want to once again say that reading your question is further proof that our club is improving in every way. Discussions at meetings inspired by yourself and others should educate and to some extent motivate all of us to improve. Unfortunately Harold, there isn't a definitive "cover all" answer. There are so many variables to consider. Next time we're at the range I'll try to go over some of the important pieces to the puzzle. in short, here are some facts to think about..... Gun designers do try to balance barrel length with power output to maximize efficiency, if a gun is to be variable power then compromises have to be made usually on the lower settings. As far accuracy goes barrel length has little to do with accuracy, as long as the projectile leaves the barrel cleanly with the proper rate of spin at the proper velocity it should be good to go. Barrel length mainly determines velocity not accuracy. I hope this helps. Best Regards always; Jim Falotico
