Anyone else not happy about the new member approved rule to cancel the league shoots when temperatures are expected to drop below 50F at 9am? Come on folks, it's Florida. Even when it's 35F at 9am, it's usually near 50F by the 10am match time. Snowbirds are not going to be happy with this rule change.......

Dale: I totally agree with you. Temperature alone should not hamper or deter any shooting activities. Dress accordingly and you should be good to go. Leave attendance due to chilly mornings up to the member. If you enjoy dressing bulky the cold air might be a refreshing change for the good. I have and I bet you have competed outdoors up north with Snow on the ground. I heard a comment from someone at the meeting that the Air did not function properly in PCP when it's too cold. Dale, there's a lot of members that just blindly follow the leader in voting. One very curious vote in question was one offered by Mike Busch Re: The use of a rear Diopter Sight with a magnification on 1.5X When the motion was floored by Mike he asked for a show of hands for approval. Now before I go any further, I know what the device is and what the device is used for, currently I do not own one. Anyway, I looked around the room and I guess just about everyone raised their hand to approve the motion. For the record, I abstained from voting. I wanted to actually see members vote on a piece of equipment that they had absolutely no idea what it was or how it is used. If you recall Dale, after the motion was overwhelmingly approved I asked Mike to openly ask everyone if anyone has ever used or owned one. Not to my surprise only one member raised his hand. A new member of only two weeks.
On the upside, I'm pleased that the "moronic" 1" rule was stripped from benchrest shooting. Last year one of the shooters at Rio was ordered to remove a piece of cardboard which he was using to shield his eyes from early morning sun. The Range Marshal stated the cardboard violated the 1" rule. (Sunshade)
The adoption of 2 handed Offhand pistol for all members regardless of age is a disappointment. Learning the demanding art of conventional Pistol marksmanship one handed is truly an accomplishment. Once again members assume that they will improve by using two hands.
I absolutely welcome everyone to get involved in Offhand Shooting one or two handed. Anyone can improve their Offhand scores.
Hey Dale, I'm looking forward to another fun season. Shoot me an Email if you want to keep in touch or call me anytime. Practice, practice, practice...... Best regards to all shooters and friends Semper Fi Jim Falotico

Hey Jim, thanks for responding! Maybe we can start posting more and freshen up forum, while helping Harold get more participation here. I hope we can get folks posting again.
A forum is a great way to voice opinions, ideas, and help other shooters in their quest to improve. That's what it is all about! As always, thank you for your offer to the club members to help them improve. We can all benefit from your expertise, and it makes for better competition.
I never understood the 1" pad/rug rule in the first place. It will be interesting to see some of the ideas/contraptions members show up with this year, LOL!
I wasn't in favor of the front eagle eye being used. But since it's allowed, I thought the rear magnification of the same power would be ok, as long as only one or the other was used, not both. Yes, I blindly voted for it without knowing really anything about it. I guess we will see how it works out. I'm sure if it's seen as a great sight aid, everyone will have one.
I was glad to see the BR rule on not allowing placement of your gun barrel on the rest get revoked. I didn't really see this as a safety issue, and in most cases it negatively effects pellet/bullet accuracy, so to each their own. If it works for them, go for it.
I'm a bullseye shooter at heart, so one handed offhand pistol shooting has been my real passion. But since the rule has changed, in the spirit of competition and improving my scores, I'll be giving the 2-hand hold a try. Some folks say it really doesn't make much difference, but I've witnessed 10 points score increases by some folks when they turned 70. Thanks for your offer to help, I'll be taking you up on it.

Dale: What really matters about restrictions, limits or regulations is that it's fair to everyone. Allow me to clarify what I mean by that. I prefer and enjoy seeing any member feeling comfortable at the range always. In fairness, when you employ strict policy about having a 1" limit on equipment regarding Benchrest then that might burden a person who might need extra support to augment his or her shooting position. Ex: If a member feels that her or she may need extra padding under their elbows for comfort then that will not only keep the member comfortable but help in focusing on the task at hand. Keep in mind that the one most important rule of resting the rifle or pistol on only one hard point is not affected. Folks like to use the word legal or illegal too freely. I hope that as more members find that special niche their scores will undoubtedly improve. It's up to all of us to help everyone to understand the limits of what is proper or improper. Ultimately, participation and enjoyment should be our main goal. Regards Jim Members please feel free to respond, ask questions, contradict or offer any other suggestions. As I have always offered my equipment to anyone and avail myself in every way to help and encourage anyone to improve and fully enjoy our wonderful sport.

Dale, I agree. I, as well as many others do not like the 50 degree temp rule. It unduly restricts many members from shooting. As a little boy way back in the day, I learned to dress accordingly or stay home.

October and January quarterly meetings will present opportunities to change it, if enough competitors support lower temperatures and show up to vote.

Right you are. I believe that there enough members to overturn this or at least exempt Soaring Eagle Range from this ridiculous restriction.

I have to agree, 50 degrees is not to cold to shoot in a competition. That rule is not needed.
